Semester 7 Internship Briefing: Writing Skills & Email & Documentation

Editorial and Student Affairs Department

Goon International College recently organized a comprehensive Writing Skills & Email & Documentation Workshop for Semester 7 students, aimed at equipping them with essential skills for their upcoming internships. The workshop emphasized the importance of clear, professional communication through email writing, documentation, and report preparation.

Madonna Francis led the session on email etiquette, highlighting the significance of email as the first point of contact and often the first impression a recipient forms of the sender. She explained the key differences between the “To,” “Cc,” and “Bcc” fields, stressing the importance of appropriate use. Madonna emphasized how a well-crafted email should clearly communicate its purpose, address the recipient appropriately, and remain concise and easy to read. She further detailed the importance of avoiding slang, using a professional tone, and thoroughly reviewing the content before sending. Additionally, she explained how to include an effective email signature, which not only contains contact information but also serves as a subtle form of personal branding.

The Writing Skills briefing, conducted by Nurul Atikah Binti Kamaruddin, focused on the Internship Final Report, a crucial document summarizing students’ experiences and learning. She guided students through the structure of the report, starting with the cover page and leading through various letters, including the internship acceptance and completion letters. Key chapters covered in the report include the company profile, internship activities, and personal evaluations, culminating in recommendations for improvement.

Elaveenthan A/L Kumaran covered documentation, reinforcing the importance of proper record-keeping and the ability to organize information logically. By mastering documentation, students ensure a smooth workflow and effective communication within professional environments.

This workshop equipped students with vital skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to present themselves professionally during their internships and in future careers.
