WWII Bomb Discovered in Lahad Datu

A shocking discovery was made in Lahad Datu, Sabah, when members of the public stumbled upon what is believed to be a World War II-era bomb along the banks of Sungai Segama on Sunday morning.

District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail confirmed the discovery, stating that the explosive was verified by the weapons division of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. Preliminary reports suggest the bomb is of British origin, likely a remnant from the Second World War when Sabah saw heavy military activity.

Authorities have since secured the area and issued a reminder for residents to stay cautious if they come across suspicious objects. The bomb disposal unit has been deployed to safely handle and remove the explosive device.

ACP Dzulbaharin emphasized that while such discoveries are rare, remnants of war can still be found in various parts of Sabah due to its history as a wartime battleground. “We urge the public not to attempt moving or tampering with any suspicious items. Always contact the police immediately,” he said.

This discovery is a stark reminder of the region’s historical significance during World War II and the lasting impact of wartime remnants. While the event has caused concern among residents, the swift response of local authorities has ensured that safety measures are in place.
